Creating an alias for use in both incoming and outgoing email is a relatively easy procedure.
- Create the alias in the Routing page
- Assign the alias to the user
- Create the identity in the Webmail
There are many benefits to creating an alias, particularly for business and/or programmatic purposes. You can also send email as these aliases, which is useful for cases where you might have multiple users needing to send as the sales department (for example). The following steps will walk you through the creation of this alias, and how to use it in our webmail.
1. Log into the admin account: Head to the account login page (not Webmail). If you have any issues with this, or have forgotten what the admin account is, you can contact us at support@purelymail.com or create a ticket above.
2. Navigate to the Routing page: Once logged in, head to the navigation bar at the top and select the "Routing" option. This will provide you with the screen where you can manage the currently existing aliases, or create new ones like in this instance.
3. Create a new alias: You can begin creating the new alias. First select the domain that it will be operating on. Next, you can select the rules for the alias. This can be specific email addresses, any address with a starting string, a catch all address excluding existing accounts and a complete catch all address. After this you can then input the email for it to be sent to. This is where it is being assigned to the user.
Well done! You have officially created the alias for all email being received. There are extra steps you need to take on accounts which receive the emails, but you also want to be allowed to send as this alias too. For this to be valid, the user you specify has to be named in the alias.
4. Log into account(s) in Webmail. From the main Purelymail page, you will need to log into the accounts which receive the email which you also want to be allowed to send the mail.
5. Navigate to the Identities settings page: Steps may vary depending on if you are using Webmail or a mobile application. For mobile applications, follow the guides in their FAQ's. Once connected, you will need to go to the settings, and select the Identities page. You can create new identities in here. Press the create button at the top of the page.
6. Input all the settings for the alias: You should see options like: Display Name, Email, Company ect. Enter i.n all the relevant information, including the Email which is the one you have set in the Alias. If you have made a catch all, then you can set this email to anything which matches the rule.
7. Set the SMTP settings: To set the SMTP for this alias, you need to first save the alias, and wait for the page to reload. Once the reloading has completed, you should see that the SMTP settings are now available. Input all of the requirements here which can be found on our connectivity page.
8. Save and test the alias: Finish up the SMTP settings, and save the identity. You can then test this alias by sending to your email address. If the received email has come from the alias email, then all of the settings are valid.
Congratulations, you can now use this alias for email sending too! If you have experienced any issues during this, feel free to contact us on support@purelymail.com and we can aid you in the creation of this alias.
